Network Engineer

Our well established and growing San Antonio client has a need for a Network Engineer to join their dynamic organization.  The Network Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, operation and support of our U.S. network infrastructure. The candidate is expected to be a well-rounded network engineer with experience in planning and implementing network projects as well as providing high-quality network engineering support to projects being led by other parts of the organization.

The job role encompasses the full life-cycle of network engineering, including detailed requirements analysis, planning and design, configuration and physical installation, documentation, maintenance and operational support to deliver global data, voice and collaboration services to all their users and authorized partners. The candidate must be innovative, independent, highly disciplined, and able to work with limited direction and conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.

Responsibilities: 

  • Configure, install, and manage network hardware and software infrastructure in support of existing or new business and/or changing business needs with adherence to defined corporate and industry standards, including:
    • Switches
    • Routers
    • Firewalls and IDS/IPS
    • Voice gateways
    • Corporate wireless
    • Video conferencing
    • Vendor and Corporate remote access IPSEC and SSL VPNs
  • Maintain the highest level of uptime for a complex carrier-grade global network
  • Provide Tier 2 and 3 support for internal and external customers
  • Perform troubleshooting and remediation of network events as assigned through the Incident and Change Management process and conduct all necessary root cause analysis and follow-up actions
  • Produce, enhance and maintain corporate network standards documentation and diagrams
  • Monitor network performance and utilization
  • Participate in evaluating and recommending improvements to the network infrastructure through new hardware, software, services, technologies and methods to improve efficiency, stability, reliability and cost-effectiveness
  • Monitor and maintain all levels of network security internally and externally
  • Maintain IP subnet and port allocations
  • Provide technical input on RFP/RFQ opportunities
  • Maintain backups of all device configurations in case of disaster recovery
  • Work closely with peers in Telecoms, Systems, Call Center, and Development teams for integration and mission success

Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or other related scientific or technical discipline (may substitute relevant work experience for educational requirement) AND Current CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification required
  • 3+ years total relevant experience in the following required:
    • Designing, installing and maintaining Cisco-based networking systems
    • Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing Cisco technologies
  • Experience in the following desired:
    • Enterprise H.323 and SIP VoIP call-delivery technologies
    • Multi-vendor, multi-protocol converged TDM/VoIP global call-center environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills to facilitate interactions with clients and members of other technology teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written format, with a high level of confidence and skill
  • Experience with current networking best practices in IT standards and principles
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent technical documentation skills
  • The ability to work under pressure and to meet all deadlines
  • Commitment to keep up-to-date with IT trends and developments
